On August 12, the INSIGHT project held its final conference in Vilnius, focusing on responsible media coverage of the stories of young people who have come into contact with the criminal justice system and their reintegration into society.
The conference program includes:
media representation, involving inmates in storytelling, and combating discrimination—featuring Jurga Bakaitė (LRT.lt);
ethical journalism, overcoming stigma, and responsible communication—featuring Indrė Kiršaitė (NARA);
a presentation of INSIGHT’s best practices, tools, and results over the past two years;
an exchange of experiences among participants from Lithuania, Italy, Croatia, and Ukraine.
The “Young Agents of Change” team also presented the project’s results and achievements over the past two years. Project manager Maria and INSIGHT experts—Kateryna Seletska, a journalist and podcast host, and Dmytro, a junior research fellow at the Research and Development Center of the Penitentiary Academy of Ukraine—shared the team’s work.
Among the conference guests was Mindaugas Kairys, Director General of the Lithuanian Prison Service.
Two years of INSIGHT have been filled with training, international collaboration, new tools, and many discussions on how to make journalism more responsible and humane.
The final conference marked the conclusion of the project, but it certainly wasn’t the end of the conversation about responsible journalism, overcoming stigma, and the possibility of change.
